Owen Christopher Albert was born on 7/22/09 at 35wks after mommy developed pre-eclampsia. After 30 hours of unsuccessful labor, Owen was born via C/S delivery. He had horrible reflux and colic for the first 4 months of life - which thankfully resolved!
In 2012, Owen was diagnosed with Apraxia, which is a speech disorder that makes it very challenging for him to communicate. We take Owen to see a developmental pediatrician every 6 months to evaluate if there is anything else besides the apraxia going on - and right now this is it. Owen does not have Autism, although we are watching closely for any new or developing symptoms that would place him on the autism spectrum of disorders. Owen is starting pre-school in July and he will receive daily speech therapy, occupational therapy three times weekly, physical therapy twice weekly and daily special pre-school education. Despite Owen's difficulty with verbal communication skills, he uses sign language, picture boards and sounds to communicate with us. He shows very loving emotions, loves to be cuddled & tickled, he really likes having a predicable routine and is a whiz on the iPad!
