We have had a lot of requests for updates on the house and how the unpacking is going. So, I figured it was time for a blog update! Things are still very much a work in progress here and we've been using the majority of our free time going through boxes and organizing. Cory has focused mainly on the electronics/networking stuff (and he's done a GREAT job!) while I've been doing more of the organizing & aesthetics. This weekend we were able to organize all our clothes in the *huge* master closet and our new dressers, organized our linen closet and the spare linen closet, went through all our files/paperwork (we ended up filling two trash bags with shredded documents!) , set up the new desk and we were even able to watch a few movies on the new 46" LCD TV in the family room! But don't let me fool you, there is still a lot that needs to be done.
We've had a few moving casualties so far - nothing major, just frustrating. We had the carpets cleaned & scotch guarded before we moved in, so of course we set ourselves up for getting stains on the carpet during the move! The delivery guys who brought our bedroom suite over left some lovely stains on the the stairway carpet, thankfully the store sent someone over to professionally clean it. Then, when Cory and his dad were setting up our W&D, a wire came loose and due to the location of it, it wreaked havoc on fixing it. There have been a few scrapes and bumps on the walls, thankfully no gashes, but some smudges and stains we'll need to paint over.
When Cory's parents were here, Cory and his dad did some major home improvement projects. They installed 2 ceiling fans (one in the living room and one in our bedroom), new outdoor lights, a new kitchen light above the sink and put together our two nightstands. Right now, our biggest barrier to getting everything finished is that we're still waiting on the delivery of our new couch, love seat, dining room table & chairs and the china cabinet/buffet. So we're hesitant to hang anything on the walls or set things up until we know what the layout of each room will be.
We've been enjoying many evening walks around our new neighborhood and having the sliding door to the screened-in back porch open for a nice breeze. I can't wait to put a bird feeder in the back yard and get some patio furniture so we can enjoy some lazy evenings outdoors and hopefully a cookout or two!
