Sophie la girafe

Gather round family & friends....and let me spin you a tale of the boy named Owen who hated all his chewie toys, that is until he met a French giraffe named "Sophie".

The Story of Miss Sophie

"The little giraffe was born on may 25th in the year 1961...Saint Sophie's day! In those days, the only animal toys available were farm animals or pet figurines.

That is why one day in France, a certain Monsieur RAMPEAU, who had assimilated the rotational modeling of rubber as a toy-making concept, came up with the idea of designing a giraffe. Such an exotic wildlife figure would be a first on the market and it's size and shape would be ideal for a baby's small hands to grasp.

Sophie the giraffe, who looked exactly the same then as she does today, went into production on Thursday May 25th, whence her name. She was an immediate success. Young mothers straightaway saw that she was a must for their children....When the first signs of teething appear, Sophie the giraffe helps baby stop crying!

By simple word of mouth, the little giraffe's fame spread. From then on in Europe, generation upon generation of children were to love hearing Sophie squeak whenever they pressed her tummy or head!

VULLI, a company based in Rumilly in the Haute-Savoie region of France has continued to keep the jealously guarded secret of how this wonder toy is made. Sophie is still "traditionally" produced to this day, a process that involves more than 14 manual operations. She is made from 100% natural rubber derived from the sap of the Hevea tree.

Owen and Miss Sophie's first meeting was a success!!

He loves her!

Even her tush!

Still no teeth yet, but those two little stubborn buds are RIGHT THERE on the bottom gums. Sometimes, Owen will get so animated and frantically strain to put anything in his mouth that he gives up before even really starting! We're working with him to improve his mouth aim...his poor nose has taken a bit of beating, ha!

Can u believe we don't have a Sophie? Riley's friend Jake has one and she confiscates it when they play. I really need to invest in one for her, especially since I think we are in this teething thing for the long haul! :)

God bless Sophie and Owen too! Can't wait to see Ownie and hold him on Saturday - what a fun baby. Love you, honey.
