Our First Anniversary...only the beginning

On Sunday 10/21, Cory and I celebrated our first wedding anniversary. It's such a neat feeling to have a new special "holiday"! We both feel as if this past year has flown by. We were fortunate enough to be able to spend our anniversary weekend with Cory's parents, who came down from Rochester, NY on Friday and my parents who drove down from Warsaw, IN on Sunday.

Saturday evening, the four of us had dinner at Sangiovese Ristorante . This is the restaurant, where a year prior, had hosted our rehearsal dinner. Our food was delicious and the atmosphere was great. They had a live piano man & a vocal performer.

On Sunday morning, Cory gave me the most amazing surprise....he had our florist make a replica of my bridal bouquet and when I came downstairs in the morning, it was sitting on our dining table! I was speechless! We also decided that each year on our anniversary, we'll light the unity candle that was used in our ceremony (we can do this because it's not a traditional candle, it's a glass enclosure that holds oil & has a replaceable wick). The second candle in the picture was our anniversary gift from Cory's parents, we've named it our "family" candle because the inscription reads: "The love in our family flows strong and deep, leaving us special memories to treasure and keep".

When my parents were celebrating their first wedding anniversary, my mother surprised everyone by wearing her wedding dress when they cut into the top layer of their wedding cake. So, when my parents were over on Sunday afternoon, I snuck upstairs with Cory and put my wedding gown on. He was amazing by how heavy the dress was! Needless to say, our parents were very surprised and we all had a great time reminiscing.

So, after the flowers and the dress comes the cake! We had anticipated that our top layer, even though it was wrapped & packaged well, after a year of being in our freezer, might not taste that good. Because of this we ordered a small cake from Heavenly Sweets in the same flavors of our wedding cake. Well, let me tell you, both cakes were amazing! Even after being frozen for a year, the top layer tasted great!

We ended our anniversary with dinner at The Melting Pot, a fondue restaurant. We had a four course dinner that words cannot describe, it was that good! It was our first time dining there and both we, and Cory's parents throughly enjoyed every course. We'll definitely go back at some point in the future. It was sad to say good bye to both of our parents, but we were very happy to have been able to share this day with them and each other. We're anxiously awaiting all that our second year of marriage has in store for us...like buying our first home, graduating with my Master's degree and hopefully adding our first family addition!
