What a week of ups and downs!

This week got off to a great start for the three of us. On Sunday, the three of us were able to make it to church for the first time! We've been looking for a new church home since we moved to Westfield and think that we've found it. It's a Lutheran church with the most amazing congregation, made up of many young families. The Pastor has been coming over to our home on Tuesday evenings these last few weeks to talk about the church, membership and Owen's baptism. We look forward to our time with him and were so happy that Owen did well during service last week. Then on Monday, my brother and his wife came to the house for a quick (but wonderful) visit to meet Owen! They were on their way to New Orleans for a friend's wedding but wanted to stop by since they were flying out of Indy. Not only was this their first time meeting Owen, but it was also their first time to our home. It felt so good to have them here and watch them interact with Owen, as they have 2 little girls of their own which Owen has yet to meet.

Then Tuesday things started to fall apart. Owen had his 2 month Peds appointment with the wonderful Dr. Riddell. Physically, he was perfect - weight was 10lbs14oz and length was 22 1/2" which showed Owen's consistent growth since birth. His measurements still have him in the 25th %, but again that is unadjusted for him being born at 35wks. Dr. Riddell was a bit surprised that his gains weren't more, not that anything is wrong, but with mine & Cory's height he thought that Owen would have gained a bit more length....however he promised that future growth spurts could fully live up to that expectation! Once we knew his weight, I gave him the appropriate dose of tylenol because he was going to get his 2 month vaccinations. He ended up having 2 shots, one in each thigh and an oral vaccine for rotavirus. We're following the recommended CDC & AAP guidelines for vaccinations - so no delays or omissions in the administration for Owen. He cried for perhaps a minute then seemed okay...until we got home.

Tuesday - Thursday were very tough days for all three of us. Poor Owen was exhausted from fighting sleep and being uncomfortable from his vaccines, which meant that Cory and I were equally exhausted and frustrated with not being able to provide him with the means for comfort, relaxation and sleep. We tried everything available...swing, tummy time, rocking, holding, swaying, carseat time and drives, but nothing really seemed to work. On Wednesday I did give him a warm bath with lavender scented baby soap and thankfully he tolerated that and was able to get some sleep afterward. He never felt febrile to me after his vaccinations, but we did end up giving him a 2nd dose of Tylenol on Tuesday evening to try and help his obvious discomfort.

Today, it seems like he's returned back to his pre-vaccine self...still colicky but with some good moments of rest, peace and interaction. He got a great nights worth of sleep (he only sleeps in 2-3hr increments, waking to feed) where he seemed truly at rest. This morning he's done well with his feeds and is currently enjoying some time in his swing. We're still doing the Enfamil Gentlease formula with the Dr. Brown's bottles and that seems to be the right combination for Owen. Cory and I both have a feeling that within the next few weeks we'll be able to transition Owen to his crib in his room because even though he'll only sleep in 2-3hr spans, he does go right back to sleep after his nighttime feeds. I think once we're able to make that move, things will be easier on Cory and I as we'll both be able to be back in the same bed and likely getting a bit more sleep.

This weekend, Cory and I are going to have to start going through Owen's clothes because is now out of all the newborn sizes and well into the 0-3 month clothes. We'll have to decide on how we want to store his outgrown clothes and probably make a trip to target for a storage bin or some space bags - our two options. We're also hoping to paint his OWEN wall letters and get those hung up on the wall in his room...we had planned on doing that before he was born, but the whole 35wk emergency induction threw a monkey wrench into that plan and we've not really cared about it until now. We'll take Owen's 2 month pictures this weekend as well, so keep an eye on the blog for those to be posted soon! I'm also hoping that we might be able to make a quick trip to Lowes to get some potted mums for our front porch to celebrate Autumn's arrival....you all know how much I LOVE fall!

That's about it for now - hope you're all doing well!

Make sure you and Cory get your flu shots since Owen cannot get one until he is 6 months old!! :) Oh, and I am sure your pediatrician already told you, but did you get your updated tetanus shot with the pertussis? I think we talked about that last time I was in Indy.

Love ya!
