My Students

Here is a group shot of my students we took on the first day of class. Don't they look so young! It's hard to believe that I was that young when I was a student in this clinical rotation! Some of them are 2nd degree students, meaning they already have a bachelors degree in another area and are returning to school to follow a calling into nursing.

This is my Friday morning clinical group :)

This is my Friday afternoon group :)

I hope that I can make even a fraction of the difference as some of my past nursing instructors made in me. It is such an honor to have been asked to join the faculty at Purdue and work along side some of my former faculty members. I can't help but look at my students and wonder where their nursing career will take them.

School Supplies

One of my favorite things to shop for has always been school supplies! So, here are some pics of my "grown up" school supplies...

My "Purdue" desk sign (thank you Cory!)

My new name tag for class...cool, I know :)

And here's my new HP iPaq hx2795b! I love it! I've installed 3 programs for clinical reference so far, 2 that are OB-Gyn-Infertility specific and one that is a general medical consult program. I have one more program to get before school starts, a pharmacology reference. I'm also using it as my daily planner/task manager/address book. Cory bought me a 2g SD card, so it has a *ton* of space.
(Sorry for the blurry pic)

Classes at Purdue start Aug. 20th-my first day of clinicals with my students will be Friday Aug. 24th.
Classes at IUPUI start Aug. 22th and my first class will be Wed. Aug. 22nd. Can't wait for my last year of school to get started....so that I can finally be finished!

School's out for summer!

That title says it all! With great relief and satisfaction, I'm happy to report that school for me is officially over until the end of August! And to top if off, I have every Wednesday off from work to do...well whatever I want (my full time contract was changed at the begining of the summer so I could attend class, which was all day on Wednesdays, and since I'll only be at the office until the end of the summer, we felt there would be minimal benefit to picking that day back up).

Ahhhh, here's to all the fun that summertime brings, lazy weekends spent at the lake, movies at the IMA, outdoor water aerobics at the Y, ice cream, flip flops and of course homework free evenings & weekends!

Amazing Opportunity!

As most of you know, I'm closing in on my last year of Graduate study at IU in the Women's Health Nurse Practitioner program. Last year, I decided to also work on my Teaching certificate, which is the equivalent of an education minor. Well today, I received a very interesting email from IU...they are starting a Nursing Education Master's degree and they emailed me to let me know that I'm only 4-5 classes short of obtaining a duel Master's degree...my primary in WHNP and then a second Master's degree in Education! I'm still in shock & totally surprised!

One of my long term goals is having a career in Academia, and having this duel degree could really help in making me more marketable and prepared for this calling. Of course Cory and I are still in the information collecting phase of making this decision. Being in school for even another 6-8 months (to finish those 4-5 courses) could possibly change some of the *plans* we've made ;) But this might be the right time to take advantage of this amazing opportunity.

Just thought I would share!
